Final Fabrication



When something comes from a machine, i think that it must have been really easy to create, however it's actually kinda hard to create something from scratch. When human made, it will not hold up to its expected hopes. As the human made product was not as good as the machine made.

Yes, because the company needs to see what your ideas are and what you want you're product to look like.

They can be used when sharing you're object. The assembly can also show the company how to put your piece together and what the end piece looks like. Beyond the design process, it could be used when showing it off to possible other investors and clients. It can show how it looks, operates, and give a more real-life feel to their work.








Final Reflection

I've been working towards my goals by drawing more often. I've also been trying to make my work look good instead of not caring how it looks.

i now know how to use CAD, even though i absolutely hate the program. I also know now how to draw a bit better. I have also learned how to follow through the design process.

I hope to learn how to build more intricate things and robots. I look forward to build more objects, and learn how to engineer items and different cool things.

Maker Faire Reflection.

The maker Faire showcase didn't really meet my expectations. I expected more than 1 computer running on the first day. And I thought there would be light in the room. A lot of the other showcases I felt like they were a lot better put together. They seemed more organized and professional. 
They also had a brief description of their item, instead of a full 2 poster-boards like we did. 
I'd like to go back and make better revisions. And possibly find a way to make this an app. I'd like to make the fixes that many of the players suggested. 
Many of the pictures I took were not of our booth, but of other Maker's objects.

Last weeks work

This week I did final touches on the 2nd map. 
I imported the dock, added trees, and adjusted final things like water. 
This upcoming week will be used to see if there is anything I can do to help. 
There was no main challenging thing for me this week besides uploading the file onto drive, which took forever.  

Maker Faire Showcase Design

My design uses the table, has a sign explaining whom we are, a tri-fold stand, our puzzle cube, a card-board car, and then of course the gaming area. 

I did not have a designated role for this project. I mainly floated around, helping when i could. I mainly was the one to figure out the use of water. I also created the forest scene. In the beginning i was told i would test, so i made my own "world" and was messing around. My role changed over time, so then i was actually contributing. 
I think as a team, we met our goals, how ever we did it extremely slowly.
I wish we would have started this earlier so there is no last minute stress over trying to finish this game. I also wish our deadlines were more strictly enforced and had more of a concrete idea of what we were doing. 
My greatest achievements was figuring out how to add water, and creating the whole forest level.

Challenges of the week

My main challenge this week was attempting to learn water. Many in the class have had a difficult time, so I decided to try. 
Water is very tricky. Creating lakes, and ponds were very easy. But I wanted to see if I could make like an ocean. The "ocean" aspect would actually be a river. But the ocean creates waves. 
I did everything with water that I wanted to figure out this week. Next week I hope to learn how to put objects on the water, and change the currents direction.

Weeks work

This week I worked on getting audio to work on my computer. In addition, I wanted to learn how to mass produce trees. All of which I learned how to do today. I learned how to do both, so this week was a pretty good successful week. Frustrations include Unity, because everything has to fit or else audio will not play. I worked on everything I needed to.

Maker Faire Job

I think the job that would suit me is either user interface/user experience, tester, or sound engineer. I typically can see the game as a whole, and see if others would want to even play this game. If it is not interesting/ entertaining than no one would want to play it. These types of people make things like option menus, HUD's, and things like feedback messages.
 I could also be a tester as i think that user experience/ user interface would go together. These people would test the game, see if it works/ is entertaining, and then make minor adjustments and make requests.
If all of these options are full, sound would also work. Working sound is like listening to real-life. These job would also fall under user interface as it must be realistic, or else what would be the point of using sound.

Dimensioning 7.1




Size dimensions describes the size of each geometric feature.
Location dimensions show the location of each geometric feature within an object or view. They also tell the viewer where edges occur inside an object view.

Chain dimensions go from a start point to and end point and the next dimensions start at the end of the previous one linking like a chain. While datum dimensions share the start and have different end points

 A written dimensions and drawn dimensions are similar in there purpose but drawn dimensions are easier to understand. Written Description is much harder to understand then a dimensioned drawing. However they both still explain the process to which to create an object. The dimensioned drawing is much easier because it shows how the object should look

Reflection of Chat w/ Engineer

Space X is trying to come out with X-Wings. These come out of the Missle Technology. The people have to land a 126ft. Rocket & land it onto a floating barge. First time, not successful, but wanting to land it. Space X wants to make rocket flight like air flight. Make it extremely common. Mission Control has massive amounts of info coming at them, so if anything looks suspicious, the button will not be pressed for launch. Ways for success: smart and engineering, and rewarding part is watching the rover/ rocket actually land and help impact others. 

Schedule varies due to the people on the floor and how fast they put things together. Typically work week hours are about 60 hours. They want to get people to Mars, but cannot because of schedule, money, and timing.

Research for Video Games- Madden 15

This game is sports based, and it's name "Madden 15" is based off of John Earl Madden. John Earl Madden was a football player in the National Football League. A former Super Bowl-winning coach with the Oakland Raiders in the American Football Conference of the NFL, and a former commentator for NFL telecasts. This game is supposed to stimulate the real game of football at a professional level. This game allows users to play as their favorite teams, players, and either coach or play the full game.

Evolvement of the game: Designers want to make the game as real as possible. They want to user to feel connected when playing. Originally when it came out, producers would have to rely on events from things like the Pro-Bowl, and rely on stock photos to recreate to likeliness of the game. Now, there are 12 DSL cameras that sit on a stand and take photos of the player from multiple views. Once the images are taken, they are sent to EA where they strip down the face to 3-D images. Then designers add real-life like features to enhance what the players actually look like.

EA Sports created Madden 15. They did so that the fans of the game can be intrigued by their team. This game allows the fans to have even more of a personal connection to their team. This game also allows the fans/ users to have fun and play a game that they love. This game is intriguing to me because I love the game of football. This game allows me to "connect" with my team and have fun with family/ friends as we play it together. It also allows me to learn players names and plays. Overall, it allows users to connect with teams, learn plays and players, compete against each other, and have fun.

Reflection Post to Reverse Engineering

The visual principles of an object must appeal to the customers liking. If they do not, they (the customer) will not want to buy the object (toy car). The visual principles also have aesthetics (things like the smoothness of the car) to stimulate our senses and make the object appealing. By having likable things like curved edges instead of pointy ones, they tell our brains indirectly that it is safe.

The black box is the "magic" that makes the object work, or product function.The way a product operates and works/behaves.

Engineers preform reverse engineering on products so that they can learn about it, and figure ways how to improve their product. By reverse engineering, they can also learn how the object operates. By doing this, they can see if they can have any improvements to their object. In my words, reverse engineering is: taking apart an object, observing it, and making logical questions why the designer put it together like this. Reverse Engineering is also taking it apart (not destroying) to see if there is any way to make the project even better.

I would make all the items out of recyclable materials. The only difference is that this will offer a better help to the environment. By doing so, we are re-using things, and saving the earth. Structurally, I'd add seats instead of a hole, for the passengers. By having seats, it will allow the children to be more creative. The seats will also increase aesthetics. Visually, I'd only add the seats. Structurally, I'd take out the hole inside of the car. Functionally, I would not change anything.

Functional Analysis

1) The purpose of this car is to occupy children's time and keep them entertained. 
3a) The axle pin sticks out far enough so that the wheel will not touch the car's body. The wheels snap into the axle.
B) yes, I was correct. There is a slot so that the wheel and axle slide into place and allow them to freely join. The slit allows for the wheel to attach, but is out far enough so that it can freely rotate. 
C) The connector pieces just snap into each other. They pass the ridge that holds them together, and then they are secured into place. When a child goes to open it, they pull in opposite directions. Which then pulls out of the connected ridge, which allows disassembly. 
D) My hypothesis was somewhat right. The clips actually fit in between the 2 circles. The circles connect into the outlet, and the ridge is in between the 2. When attempted to pull, the piece just snaps off. 
E) The raised ridge allows the connection to the main body pieces. They connect the parts together, and hold it. When force is applied, the pop-off. 
F) the formation of the car; it allowed air flow and a sleekness to the object. The wood allowed easy carving of the object. Ease of use allows children not have to think hard, and just play/ be entertained. The designer made this choice so that clients who buy and use their products. 
4) Wheels < movement < movement 
    Rubber on wheels < grip> holds to the surface 
     Window shield < allows protection , airflow < better airflow and protector of occupants inside. Aerodynamic.
      Skirt < asthetic < cooler looks
       Spoiler < asthetic, heavy < allows more weight for better momentum and speed 
       Body shape < air flow, asthetic < allows better shape and easier flow of air

Visual analysis of car

The first view is of the top view and the lid off. The people are situated inside. The second picture is of the front view of the automoblox. 3rd is of the side views. And the last is of the back of the car. 
The manufacturer chose 3 colors: the tan of the body, blue wheels, and gray fixings. Without the hood it makes the car look very plain. The tires have lines to allow aesthetics, but also grip for the tires to hold onto it's surface. The car is mainly curved lines to allow an economy like mode and so it's more aerodynamic. The wholes in the car represent the head light fixtures. The rims, mimic a real car.

Passenger Box- CAD

This is the attempt to draw the passenger box. I couldn't finish because inventor decided to be challenging and no cooperate and extrude the star- piece.  The most challenging was attempting to figure out why the star would not extrude. The circle, square, triangle, and overall outline of this box came quite easy for me. I want to figure out why I can't extrude my box even though all lines are connecting and there are little to no constraints. Also I'd like to know how to delete construction lines.

geometric shapes and candy and toothpicks

1) Pallavi and I used triangles and squares. These shapes provided flexibility and strength to our design.
2) Between 45 degrees to 90 degrees. So only acute and right angles. The reason being so was because we thought that obtuse angles would not provide that much support or strength to our design.
3) Area was 36.9 inches squared. We would make the structure out of wood. We would need 36.9 inches squared of wood.
4) 36.9 inches squared. It would be able to fit a family of four comfortably.
5) No weight on the top, as that would be a weak spot and possibly concave if it was a flattened top. So we wanted a peak so everything would "fall down/ slide down". We wanted our structure to be strong.
6) We had to make sure that it would provide shelter. We also had to make sure that it was sturdy and be able to protect the people inside, but also be strong enough to stay together.


Teach what you know- inventor issues to solving

The most angering thing for me in inventor was how to evenly space objects without killing time, and wanting to throw my fist through a computer. So after a while this site: http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-general-discussion/pattern-component-for-unequal-spacing-or-alternate-idea/td-p/3694234 helped me find the tool component to set a rectangular pattern, and other types of patterns. My next struggle was how to actually use the tool. Luckily, Mrs. L's friend sent a video and it helped. Mrs. L obtains the video but basically the part has to be in a 3-D object form, not in sketch. Then you click the object and click a line to send it a direction. If not the desired way, there is a flip option. The click how many inches you'd like the parts to be. After that, press ok, and the pieces shall appear.

My partner, Pallavi, was attempting to figure out how to constrain objects while in assembly mode. She found a tutorial that helped her, and showed the different constraint options to put the objects together as one part.

Reflection Post of Form Follows Function


1) I intended this dishwasher to be about the typical size, and that it would fit in a corner. I intended the face to be stainless steel, and then at the bottom would be LED lights. Red to signal that it's not done, and green to signal that it's through with the cycle. 
2) Everyone wants to wash their dishes, but doesn't have time to do it themselves. So there's the reason why a dishwasher was made. The most inconvenient about is that it beeps when done. Most people want to run it during the night. So that's where my design of having a light works. 
3) How did required functionality affect the specifics of the design? The functionality of the design was to wash dishes, so therefore it would have to be in an enclosed space. To wash dishes the water would go through your pipes, and you add the soap, dishes. Therefore it's shape has to follow it's job.
4) It reminds me of the product improvement design time.
5) It's similar because we are fixing a product. Is different because we are following form follows function and it's difference concepts. 
6) I think I could add an option for sound, but then it would be confusing for clients to choose and figure out what to do when using my product. And I didn't see any products out there that were similar to my idea.

second reflection of the puzzle cube

It's extremely important to model an idea before you make the final drafts for a couple of reasons. To start, you have to have a solid concept of what you are going design, and you have to follow the design process. Making sure you have a good concept allows you to help fully envision your product and allow others to know what you are designing. Another important thing about modeling is making sure your measurements are both accurate and precise. Also making sure that your measurements all are all in the same unit (preferably centimeters). I think I enjoyed about crafting this puzzle was watching other people struggle in the attempt of putting my 5 pieces into a 3 by 3 cube. I also enjoyed the length and complexity of this project. One thing I would change is possibly thinking of a more complex cube (even though some people couldn't solve it). I wish i had clamps to make my parts more accurate in their designed shape. This would of allowed the pieces to fit better and keep the shape of the desired part. The clamps would also allow the blocks to have a good hold with each other, because with wear and use, they hold of the cubes could likely deteriorate. Otherwise, I really enjoyed building these cubes. The process of building the blocks took more time, and as a result putting it together looked better than the package. The package didn't look so good because it was rapid fire and I didn't have all the needed materials.

The container was made packaging from plastic inside the MacBook Pro Box.  It has a lid to allow easier opening. You can also see part of the cube as it has a little "window".

Reflection of Cube-Puzzle

This photo is of all my data regarding times of people putting my puzzle together. The y-axis is time in minutes and the x-axis is the number of trials done. Many people couldn't solve my puzzle under 10 minutes. Whereas others
could solve it under a minute. I really enjoyed this project. I liked the length and simple complexity it had to it. I have now found a new love for inventor. Building the blocks were great, I just wish we had a clamp and a sander to make the blocks all the same size. Otherwise I really enjoyed this project.

Isometric Views & Combo's of Puzzle + Reasons

The first 2 are all the different Combonations I came up with for the Puzzle. (Brainstorm) 3rd and 4th are my different pairings of the puzzle block.(cake layer) I will be using the first one pictured. The reason why is because I believe that the assembly of the parts will be more difficult. The construction of the whole block- puzzle will be more difficult.  The last one is all of the views of both puzzles. (Multi-view)
